Bury St Edmunds is a historic market town in Suffolk. The area is surrounded by beautiful countryside and plenty of history to explore. The magnificent St Edmundsbury Cathedral is a beautiful attraction, alongside the ruins in the stunning Abbey Gardens. Britain’s first internally illuminated street sign - the pillar of salt, built in 1935, can still be seen. There’s also a network of underground tunnels which are evidence of chalk-workings, although these aren’t open to the public for safety reasons.
Bury is very well known for having amazing markets from weekly fruit and veg, to farmers markets and a popular Christmas market. There’s a great variety of shops, cafés, hotels, B&B’s and restaurants here, and public transport is ample.
